British Veterans Champion 2009
Well done Rachel!

On the 20th September Easton Gymnastics Club produced its first British Champion proving there is still life in the old dog yet!
As a bit of a surprise entry into the British veterans championship, Rachel Perry competed in the competition held at Basingstoke G.C.
After eventually arriving after nearly 4 hour drive and 5 am start Rachel performed out of her skins. Not knowing what to expect it was soon obvious that Rachel was in with a shoot of a medal. A strong performance on Bars followed an high quality routine on beam and even with a fall Rachel still was in the top 3 in the over 19 recreation section. In rounds 3 and 4 Rachel was a class above her group with a floor routine that turned some head and two controlled vaults she was in with a shout. Then came the presentation with national anthem and the head officials form British Gymnastics. Following a mix up the positions and the unusual scoring system Rachel ended up with a joint gold medal and a British title putting Easton G.C. on the map.
What a great example to the rest of the club and something for the younger and older gymnast to look up to. Well done Rachel! Bring on next year with more old timers.

  Sponsorship

We are also very grateful to Poultec for donating £400 to pay for T-Shirts for the club staff as uniform. This means we will be easily identified and will also look a very smart team.
Financial help from sponsorship means that there is more cash to go towards finding another facility. It would be great not to have to continue putting out and clearing away equipment after each session 5 times a week.

There will be a number of positions available on the committee but please don’t feel that you will be pressured into a role. We can always do with help one way or another whether it be cleaning or helping out at an event. You don’t have to be on the committee to help!

New Facilities

Our hopes of moving any nearer to getting the funding for a new building have taken a knock due to the economic situation and the fact that certain funds across the country have been frozen indefinitely.
We are therefore trying other avenues to find an existing building within 5 miles of Easton which would be a suitable venue in the short term.

THIS IS WHERE YOU CAN HELP!
If anybody can find a building that might suit our needs please let Jo Tubby know. This request is going in the press and other appropriate places. It may seem like we are not moving very quickly in this respect but we are working very hard behind the scenes to obtain something. We are also looking towards setting up a link on the website where anybody can make a contribution towards funds for a new facility, as this is our long term goal.

Presentation Evening

We have decided this year to hold a Presentation of Awards evening to celebrate 25 years of the Club. This is provisionally booked for Saturday 5th Sept 2009 in the Sports Hall. The content of the evening will be confirmed once the College have agreed we can have the hall. The main idea is for everybody to really enjoy themselves /chat/have fun/etc with no worries or hard work for any body.

Does anyone know of a high profile celebrity who would present prizes without charging for coming? David Beckham can't make it as he's washing his hair! Or maybe you know of a Magician who can entertain everybody! All ideas gratefully received. Lets make this a night to remember!

Lateness

Please ensure that you turn up 10 minutes before your session to help with equipment and allow a prompt start. A lot of you are turning up late. This disrupts the warm-up and takes up valuable time. If you arrive later than 10 minutes after your session has started you will not be allowed to join in.

Parents Help

A big thank you to all who help set up and clear away the equipment each session and it is good to see some new faces helping too, especially when the coaches have not been able to lift.If you can spare time to help set up or clear away it enables the gymnasts to start the sessions on time and leave fairly prompt too. Please be mindful that all help is voluntary therefore the more help the easier it is for all concerned. If you can help in any way then please speak with one of the committee members or one of the coaches. Also thank you to those of you that helped with the Health and Safety checks and with the hoovering of the mats.
We are truly grateful.
